Dark /L/ Part 2

The Dark L in connected speech

Being able to produce the dark L in isolation is half the work. The other half is using it inside a sentence, where it links to the following vowel, blends with other consonants and often comes so close to a /u/ that it nearly disappears. This part is won by repetition, not by theory.

How it's made

• 👄 Mouth: relaxed; don't force your jaw when linking words.
• 👅 Tongue: keep the back raised across the whole join between words.
• 🔊 Voice: voiced and continuous — the L doesn't cut the phrase, it links it.

⚠️ The typical Spanish-speaker mistake: releasing the tongue between words and falling back on the light Spanish l. That breaks the link and brings the choppy rhythm right back.
