Ejercicio para activar las cuerdas vocales

Video lesson. The full description lives in the linked notes (Resource below).

Air resistance: the warm-up before the consonants

English consonants burn far more air than Spanish ones: there are bursts, vibrations and stops that Spanish simply doesn't use. Without breath control you tire out within minutes and the end of every sentence fades away. This exercise is the warm-up for the consonant module.

What you'll practice

  • 🫁 Breathing: air from the diaphragm, not from the chest.
  • 🎤 Vocal cords: feel the vibration with a hand on your throat.
  • ⏱️ Stamina: hold the sound without letting it weaken at the end.

Practice with: sustained sounds: sss · zzz · fff · vvv · mmm

⚠️ The typical Spanish-speaker mistake: speaking on just enough air and letting the volume drop at the end of each sentence. In English final consonants are heard, and that takes air in reserve.

By the end you'll be able to: hold long consonants without running out of air, and reach the end of a sentence intact.
